The Kentucky State Police want everyone to be safe this Halloween and offer some safety tips for trick-or-treaters, parents, motorist, and homeowners.
For motorist, stay alert for increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic. Be patient and slow down when traveling through residential areas. Give children lots of time to cross the street. Costumes may impair their ability to see and hear your vehicle as they may not be able to get out of your way quickly. Young children may lack the physical ability to cross the road quickly. They do not effectively evaluate potential traffic threats, cannot anticipate driver behavior, and process sensory information more slowly than adults. Be aware that the trick-or-treaters are excited and my simply forget to “stop, look and listen. Drive defensively and expect the unexpected on Halloween night.
