oramaMaida Orama, a Berks County (Pennsylvania) Dispatcher and PowerPhone graduate, is being honored by the American Red Cross for her help in answering one call in particular.

It was a call from a child and one she said she’ll never forget.

“Right away,” said Orama, “I heard a child on the phone. His voice sounded panicky, sounded scared.”

The call was coming from an 8-year-old child.

“His mom wasn’t feeling well,” said Orama. “She’s saying she can’t see was the first thing I believe he started to say to me.”
