SAVANNAH, GA — A four year-old Pooler girl is being credited with helping to save her mother’s life. The child woke up one morning to find her mom had collapsed in their apartment, so she called 911.
“Savannah Chatham 911, what’s your emergency?” a dispatcher says on the recording. “My mom’s on the floor and she’s hurting really bad,” replies the voice of four year-old Alisha.
“[I was] getting ready for work, and back popped and kind of laid on the floor for about 3 hours,” said Tymesia Kirkland.
Kirkland found she couldn’t move, so she called out to Alisha, who came into the bathroom to find mom on the floor.
“I told her, ‘You know that number you’re supposed to call when there’s an emergency?’ She said ’911?’ and I said yes.”
Alisha stayed on the phone with the dispatcher and opened the door for paramedics when they arrived, leading them to her mom.
“I told them that my mommy’s in the bathroom,” she said.
“I saw the 9 and the 1, 1, so I pushed 9,1,1,” Alisha told the dispatcher. “That is a very good job you did,” the dispatcher replied.
Kirkland said she taught Alisha about the importance of 911 at age two, and she is proud of her daughter for remembering what to do during an emergency.
“It was pretty creepy and then I didn’t know what she was going to do with me being in there, but she stayed calm the whole entire time,” said Kirkland.
Her mom said Alisha got a lot of attention from the doctors and nurses when they heard the story. Alisha said she is just happy her mom is ok, and she knows how to tell other kids what to do in case of an emergency.
