Dispatchers at Mishawaka Police owe money after payroll mistakes

INDIANA — More than a dozen Mishawaka Police Dispatchers have been getting overpaid these past five months. It started back in June when a new supervisor was hired.
The payroll mistakes were recently caught when a dispatcher told the city controller. Apparently there was an oversight in filling out the forms and entering vacation time, time owed, or personnel days correctly.
Originally dispatchers called us worried their paychecks would be cut in half the rest of the year during the holidays. But the city is going to work with them to spread out the deductions as dispatchers chose.
A total of 15-thousand dollars must be re-paid by the 15 dispatchers.
“I guess I would say it’s an honest mistake. These people were overpaid. I think everyone is in agreement that they were overpaid and they need to pay the money back,” says Chief Ken Witkowski from Mishawaka Police.
Some of the dispatchers owe the city a lot more than others based on vacation time they may have taken or time owed.
