BROWN COUNTY, OH — A 29-year-old Williamsburg, Ohio, man is behind bars, accused of abducting a woman he knew from high school outside Southern State Community College on U.S. 62 Wednesday morning.

The 29-year-old victim was rescued, police say, only after she was able to call 911 on her cellphone, which allowed police to use her phone’s GPS system to track the suspect’s vehicle on a two-county chase.

“We were able to know where they were, a place to start looking,” said Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Randy McElfresh.

The chase spanned Brown and Adams counties and lasted a half hour, McElfresh said. The woman was disconnected a couple of times during the search, but was able to call back.

McElfresh identified the suspect as Nathan Parsons. Late Wednesday, prosecutors were considering what charges to file.

McElfresh said the suspect and victim went to high school together and recently ran into each other, but had no relationship outside of that encounter.

The victim was standing outside the college when Parson snatched her up and tossed her in the back of a 2009 Ford F-150, with a hard-top cover, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Two bystanders called 911, providing details about the suspect’s car, according to reports.

“They gave an excellent description of what happened and what the suspect vehicle looked like,” McElfresh said.

Using longitude and latitude coordinates from the woman’s cellphone GPS, as well as her description of the road surface, state troopers, along with deputies from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the West Union Police Department finally spotted the man in Adams County. They tried to stop him, without success, according to the highway patrol.

At one point an Adams County, a deputy fired a shot at the truck’s tires, but missed, McElfresh said.

At some point – through it’s unclear when – the driver stopped and allowed the woman into the passenger seat, McElfresh said.

Finally, the driver lost control, driving into a farm field. He surrendered, and the victim was found in the vehicle unharmed.
