One of PowerPhone&#8217;s primary recommendations was the centralizing of the center&#8217;s command under a new Department of Public Safety Communications and the cross-training of its existing workforce in a unified call-taking approach.</em></span></span></p>
<div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">New Haven, CT — A communications supervisor from American Medical Response has been hired to take over the police and fire dispatch centers, with expectations to jump-start a consolidation that started in 2007 but never materialized in day-to-day operations. <span id="more-1792"></span></p>

<div><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Clayton Northgraves, manager of communications for the ambulance company in New Haven, will start with the city Feb. 8 as head of the new civilian Department of Public Safety Communications. Communications no longer will be under auspices of the respective public safety departments, and Northgraves will report to the city chief administrative officer, Rob Smuts, who said a top priority will be to cross-train workers.</span></span></div>
